The Best Arts and Crafts Summer Camps

We worked hard (sweat dripping from our forehead) to find the best summer camps in 2012.  There are fantastic options for kids: they can learn to row, dance, perfect a second language or improve their first, paint, or just make new friends.

Since the list is vast, we are posting our recommendations for  Arts and Crafts Camps first and will later follow up with others.

Miami Children Museum’s Summer Camp: 980 Macarthur Causeway, Watson Island, Miami, Fl – 305-373-5437 Ext. 112

Why: Kids take part in exciting museum activities and learn arts and crafts. This camp can jump start their inner Picasso.

Ages: 3 – 11 – Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Price: $198 per week for members and $220 for non-members

Miami Science Museum’s Summer Camp: 3280 S. Miami Ave, Miami, Fl – 305-646-4222

Why: Perfecto for the explorer. Ecology, rocketry, sailing, robotics, astronomy, drama, field trips, and dinosaurs are some of the exciting topics offered for campers’ summertime fun.

Ages: 4 – 14 – Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm
Price: $180 per week for members and $210 for non-members

Bal Harbor Beach Camp by Miami Children’s Museum: Sea View Hotel – 9909 Collins Avenue, Bal Harbor, Fl – 305-373-5437, Ext.112

Why: Conveniently and strategically located across from Bal Harbor Shops (amazing). The Bal Harbor Beach Camp by Miami Children’s Museum offers kids the chance to explore the ocean depths through arts and games.

Ages: 3 – 11 – Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm half day/ until 3:00 pm full day
Price: $25 half day and $50 full day

Bass Museum of Art Summer Camp 2100 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Fl – 305-673-7530

Why: Adventures in painting, drawing, and 3-D Design. Children will unleash their creativity and get inspired by its intriguing art collection and exhibits.

Ages: 4 – 12 – Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm
Price: $150 per week for members and $190 for non-members

Miami City Ballet Summer Program: 2100 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Fl – 305-673-7530

Students take classes in ballet technique, stretch, jazz, musical theater and point (for applicable students). Admission is by video audition or school audition. Housing is available at school dorms.

Ages: 10 – 18 – Monday – Friday, 9:30 am to 4:45 pm
Price: 5 weeks program $1,800 + $100 registration; 2 weeks program $600 + $100 registration
When: 5 weeks Summer Program – June 25 to July 27 – for 12 years and older
2 weeks Summer Program – July 30 to August 10 – for 10-12 years old

Why: Kids can learn a variety of dance techniques in a fun recreational setting.

Why: Ready, aim, shoot! Does your teen want to explore video production? Miami Ad School’s Video Production Camp includes video technologies, basic operation, composition, basic lighting and audio production.Campers may bring their own camera. 

Ages: 12 – 16 – Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Price: $100 for Miami Beach residents and $180 for non-residents

Why? A Spanish immersion program in beautiful Key Biscayne. Need I say more?
